All four communities came together for one huge Momentum Academy block party this year. Chelsea Haynes (00:04):Can you believe it? We are already talking about Back to School. It’s August 1st in St. Louis. The Momentum Academy has been serving the community for 10 years now. That’s what we’re celebrating this week. The segment has been sponsored by Momentum Academy and there is so much happening this month. Joining me now is Quanisha Major. She is the principal of Tower Grove South, alongside of Megan Prouhet, the Chief of Curriculum and Instruction. Ladies, thanks for joining us today. Quanisha Major (00:30):Thank you for having us. Chelsea Haynes (00:31):Absolutely. Absolutely. Congratulations on 10 years, first of all. That is awesome. Educating so many in our community, this is what we’re celebrating this week. What does 10 years mean to you guys? Quanisha Major (00:42):10 years of serving our community. This is one of our founding team members here. Megan Prouhet (00:47):So yeah, I started as a teacher at momentum, we make sure that we are serving the community by providing equitable education and opportunities to the scholars. And we call it our students, scholars, and their families. And so 10 years is something huge to celebrate, but we have a lot more to give and a lot more growing to do. Chelsea Haynes (01:15):Oh my gosh. Well, we are here for all of the growing that’s going to be happening at Momentum Academy. And I mean, the perfect way to celebrate these students, to celebrate their families is with the Block Party. Give us the details. Quanisha Major (01:26):Yes. So school starts August 22nd, but we’re kicking off back to school with a block party this Friday at our Gravois Park location, which is 3630 Ohio Avenue. So we want to invite you to come on down. We’ll be there from four to seven. We’re going to have food, games, and we’re pleased to announce that our partners, the Healthy Kids Mobile, will be there to get immunizations to school-aged children. Chelsea Haynes (01:47):That is incredible. Really the perfect way to help parents cross one more thing off of their to-do list is they’re getting ready for back to school. And what about enrollment? You guys are currently enrolling now, correct? How can people learn more? Quanisha Major (01:58):So we have seats kindergarten to second grade still available. So if you’ve got a kindergartner or a first grade or a second grader, come on down. We have a seat waiting for you. Chelsea Haynes (02:07):That is pretty awesome. And Megan, you have been with Momentum Academy since day one. Megan Prouhet (02:11):I have. Chelsea Haynes (02:12):Where are you guys going in the next 10 years? Megan Prouhet (02:15):We’re going to do great things. It’s one of the things that we talk about is moving from good to Great. We set a really good foundation and we’re wanting to drive it to be great. We want to make sure that all of our graduates of eighth grade graduates are embodied. There are three pillars, which are community, confidence and character. Chelsea Haynes (02:38):Absolutely. Well, the three Cs, community, confidence and character. You can find all of that at Momentum Academy. And you guys have just opened up your first pre-K classroom for ages three to four years old. How cool. Quanisha Major (02:51):We’re so excited. Chelsea Haynes (02:52):That is pretty exciting. I mean, you’re welcoming in the little babies, which is so important. Megan Prouhet (02:57):The program is going to be amazing and outstanding. We’re really excited to pilot this program. Chelsea Haynes (03:06):All right. Well, St. Louis, if you would like to get on out and enjoy the block party that is happening with Momentum Academy, you absolutely can. It is happening on Friday, August 4th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM They have four locations, but the Block party is happening at the VO Park location.
