As the weather turns cooler and we head into the fall and winter months, we want to take a moment to talk about how we can all stay healthy during cold and flu season. At Momentum Academy, the well-being of our students, families, and staff is always a top priority. With a few simple habits, we can work together to reduce the spread of illness and keep our community strong.

Here are a few important reminders to help promote health and wellness this season:

1. Wash Hands Often
Regular handwashing is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of germs. Please encourage your child to wash their hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds—especially after using the restroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.

2. Cover Coughs and Sneezes
We teach our scholars to use tissues or cough and sneeze into their elbows. This helps prevent germs from spreading to others. If possible, please send your child to school with a small pack of tissues.

3. Stay Home When Sick
If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or is feeling unwell, it’s best to keep them home to rest and recover. Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours (without medication) before returning to school. When in doubt, feel free to check in with your healthcare provider or our school nurse.

4. Eat Well and Stay Hydrated
A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains helps build a strong immune system. Staying hydrated is also key—please be sure your scholar brings a water bottle to school each day.

5. Get Plenty of Sleep
School-aged children need 9–11 hours of sleep each night. A consistent bedtime routine helps support both health and learning.

6. Consider the Flu Shot
The flu vaccine is a helpful tool in protecting against more serious illness during this time of year. We encourage families to speak with their healthcare provider to see if it’s a good fit for your child.

By working together and practicing healthy habits at home and at school, we can help ensure that our scholars stay safe, energized, and ready to learn. Thank you for all you do to support our school community. If you have any questions or need resources, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our front office or school nurse.

Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy season ahead.

Best Wishes,
