As the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) fall testing window approaches, we at Momentum Academy St. Louis want to ensure our scholars are ready to succeed. The Measures of Academic Progress tests are diagnostic and computerized adaptive assessments in reading, math and science. These assessments are used to measure progress over time and identify specific learning needs of each scholar. This assessment is used in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, three times a year at Momentum Academy. The NWEA tests provide valuable insights into each scholar’s learning progress, helping us tailor instruction to their unique needs. To help your scholars do their best, we’ve gathered some effective test preparation strategies.

1. Create a Positive Environment

A positive attitude towards testing can significantly impact performance. Encourage your scholar to see the tests as an opportunity to show what they know, and will  help their teachers support their learning.

2. Ensure Consistent Attendance and Punctuality

Arriving on time allows your scholar to settle in, focus, and approach the test with a calm mindset. Please ensure your scholar is at school by 8 AM each day of testing.

3. Establish a Consistent Routine

A consistent daily routine can help reduce anxiety and help scholars perform well. Ensure your scholar gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives at school on time.

4. Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques

Simple mindfulness exercises, like deep breathing or visualization, can help calm nerves before and during the test. Practicing these techniques at home can give your scholar tools to manage stress effectively.

5. Encourage Regular Reading and Problem-Solving

Engage your scholar in activities that involve reading and problem-solving. This could be reading a book together, playing educational games, or even working on puzzles.

6. Communicate with Teachers

If you have any concerns or questions about the NWEA test, don’t hesitate to reach out to your scholar’s teacher. They can provide additional insights and resources to support your scholar’s preparation.

We are confident that with the right preparation, mindset, and timely arrival, your scholar will approach the NWEA tests ready to shine. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to your scholar’s education. The testing period begins Tuesday, September 3, through Friday, September 6.
